A Rocky Mountain Valemount Adventure — Valemount/Mount Robson

Gateway — Valemount

Day 1

Start out your day with some breakfast from the Valemount Swiss Bakery; they have Swiss specialty breads, sweets, tarts, cakes, coffees and teas and fresh buns. Every day they have different hot lunches, sandwiches and bagged lunches. Now head out to Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, and go on a day hike to Kinney Lake. It’s a 2.5-hour return hike from the Berg Lake Trail parking lot; the trail winds through an old-growth cedar/hemlock forest as it follows the Robson River to Kinney Lake. This gentle 4.5 km (one way) hike offers incredible scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities.

When you get back, stop at the Mount Robson Café for some lunch; they have great homemade pizzas, sandwiches, wraps, soups, treats, coffee bar and a chocolate section to die for.

After that head down and take in a whitewater or a scenic float trip with Mount Robson Whitewater or Stellar Descents on the Fraser River. Top off your day with a upscale dinner at the Caribou Grill; they offer Canadian Cuisine with Triple A Angus Steaks, Prime Rib,  Seafood, Wild Salmon, Venison and Pasta. They are “Valemount’s place to dine.”

Day 2

Head out to McLennan/Car Truck Stop Restaurant for an authentic “diner style” breakfast. Right across the highway is Robson Helimagic; take one of their many scenic Heli-Sightseeing Tours: The Majestic Mount Robson, Premier Glacier and the Valley Buzz. If you are looking for something more adventurous, do the Berg Lake Drop-Off and get dropped off at Robson Pass and spend 2-3 nights on the Berg Lake Trail; the world famous Berg Lake Trail is a 23-km hike through various biogeoclimatic zones. Pass the Valley of a Thousand Falls to reach an array of campsites on the lake. This hike has some of the most spectacular scenery in the province of BC. Seven BC parks campgrounds are available along the hike out.

After that go on a scenic 6-km hike around the Cranberry Marsh to work up your appetite for lunch at the Gathering Tree Eatery & Gift Shop. They have homemade soups, sandwiches, wraps, paninis, salads, treats and a full hot and cold drink menu. The Cranberry Marsh has two viewing platforms and 360- degree views of the Cariboo, Rocky and Monashee Mountains. It also has a newer boardwalk section with great wildlife viewing opportunities.

Wrap up the evening at the Summit Grill or Cranberry Lounge at the Valemount Best Western Plus Inn and Suites for both North American and International cuisine, along with some local area favorites. Be sure to leave room for the homemade desserts and pastries created on-site. In the winter months you can relax in front of the fire at the Cranberry Lounge.

Day 3

Start out your day with a healthy, hearty-delicious breakfast Summit Grill style at the Valemount Best Western Plus Inn and Suites.

After you have satisfied your appetite, try out the Valemount Bike Park; there are trails for all ages and abilities. If you do not have a bike, check out Bikes N Bites for a rental or repairs.

Grab a bite from the Funky Goat Eatery food truck located downtown and try his famous homemade poutine and then bring it over to Three Ranges Brewery and quench your thirst with one of their famous craft beers. This is a popular spot for riders to kick back and relax after a tough day on the trails.

In the afternoon head out for a horseback ride at either Snow farmers or Willow Ranch. There are trail rides, lessons, demos and workshops as well as ponies who love to hang out with the kids. The Willow Ranch has a variety of specials and events including Cowgirl Weekends and kids’ specials and Ranch Nights. Or you can head out to the Valemount Pines Golf Course and RV Park for either 9 or 18 holes of golf. The view is spectacular in every direction.

After a hard day on the trails or the green sit back and relax on the patio at the Riverside Café by the Fraser River. If it’s during the Chinook Salmon spawning season, you may catch a glimpse of them jumping. The Riverside Café serves a great buffet dinner or an a la carte menu as well.
